So as mentioned in my previous posting, there’s a bunch of changes going on within our BL yoga program. Here are the latest:
1) Starting this Saturday, February 20th, the 8:15am class on Saturday mornings will change to a power flow class. We will have Susan Walsh subbing until March after which we will have a permanent power flow instructor. After the month of February, this class time will change to 9am.
2) Beginning Tuesday, March 8th, Doris’s morning class will change to 6:45am. Now you can practice in the morning and still make it to work on time! Come start your mornings bright and cheerfully with Doris’s Tuesday/Thursday vinyasa class.
3) Starting Saturday, March 6th, Debbie’s hatha class will change to 10:45am. Now you can sleep in on the weekends and still make it to a yoga class!
Thank you very much for taking the time to review all our recent changes. We are doing this to continue to provide you with studio quality yoga while considering the vast feedback we’ve gotten from you as the students. I hope our efforts to boost our yoga program will benefit you as the practicing students and you will continue your practice at Planet Granite. As always, I welcome any feedback you may have. Thank you. Namaste.

Yoga 4 Runners with Kerri Kelly
The pain and discomfort most runners feel is not from the running in and of itself, but from imbalances in the body. Through our yoga practice, we can cultivate:
-
strong core for stability and efficiency
-
healthy alignment to support structure and movement
-
increased flexibility and elasticity to increase range of motion
-
balanced strength throughout the body to enable optimal movement
-
improved breath connection to increase endurance and receptivity
Integrating Yoga into your training can have significant benefits on your running: promotes physical balance and strength throughout the whole body, increasing flexibility and range of motion (lengthens stride) and prevents injury. Yoga also encourages qualities of awareness and compassion that can translate to your runs.
These workshops are designed with the athlete in mind: leveraging yoga’s integrative approach to improve one’s physical health AND enhance athletic ability. It will be a challenging and fun practice emphasizing strength, core and flexibility and encouraging the entire body to become more integrated, receptive and healthy.

Open and Free the Hips with Silvie
Sunday, Janaury 10th from 2pm to 4pm at PGSF
$25 - to register, e-mail silviehibdon@gmail.com
Join Silvie for two hours of flowing vinyasa practice that will begin by creating heat and mobility in the joints and end with the long deep hip openers.
Hip opening poses are very beneficial to practice, especially if you sit at a desk all day. Long hours of sitting cause the hip flexors to shorten, thus limiting our ability extend and possibly affecting the pelvic position and the lower back. As your hips become more flexible, you may experience a sense of emotional release, as we carry much of our anxiety and tension in our hips. The pelvis and hips contain the fundamental creative power for our mind and body. When the hips are loosened up and the sacrum and pelvis are better aligned, you can move around with more ease. In addition, opening the hips takes excessive pressure off the unforgiving knees. Open hips let you enjoy a new sense of space in your pelvis—and help protect you from compression and pain in your lower back!
Level: flow experienced beginners, intermediate and advanced
