Ashtanga
Ashtanga yoga is a more powerful, dynamic and challenging form of hatha yoga. Each pose is linked to the next through a series of connecting movements called vinyasa. The series of poses allows the body to create heat and thus gain more flexibility. Smooth, deep breathing (ujjayi), is synchronized with the movements. This powerful and vigorous practice purifies and realigns the body.
Hatha
Hatha Yoga describes any of the physical practices of yoga. It is what most people in the West associate with the word “yoga” and is practiced for mental and physical well being. Our Hatha yoga classes will challenge your strength, flexibility & balance. You will also learn to control your breathing in order to focus on the postures. It is a good place to learn the basic poses and can be a gateway to exploring other classes at PG Yoga.
Hybrid Yoga - Belmont only
Jean’s own brand of yoga pulling from Iyengar Flow, Ashtanga and power yoga styles. Focus includes standing poses, balance & core strength.
Iyengar
The classical Iyengar style focuses on alignment and flexibility. Poses may be held longer so that participants may pay attention to the precise alignment of postures. Props, such as belts and blocks, are utilized.
Power
A fast paced class in which the sequence of poses changes with each class. Poses flow from one to the next for a strengthening and calorie-burning workout. This is a challenging class that is open to all levels of students. If you’re new to Power it may take a few times, but you’ll soon catch on to the basics!
Power Flow Yoga
A sweaty practice using elements of Forrest Yoga which connects you to your core. Use deep breathing and vigorous sequences to sweat out toxins, oxygenate and rejuvenate every cell. Long held poses and arm balances are an essential part of this class.
Slow Flow
These classes are similar to Vinyasa Flow, but pay attention to details on alignment, Uyaji breath and Sun Salutations. Slow Flow is paced slower, allowing for a deeper experience of the poses. If you are a beginner, please arrive 10 minutes early to speak with the instructor.
Vinyasa Flow
An evolving form of Hatha yoga, this style focuses on integrating breath and movement through steady and fluid asana sequences called Vinyasa. Vinyasa flow is a dynamic and flowing yoga practice. It synchronizes breath and movement using Sun Salutations to connect poses.
Yin Yoga
Yin yoga opens up the deep, dense, connective tissues and joints of the body, which are not often reached in an active yang yoga class. Each class will offer a series of yin poses held for a considerable length of time to allow for a complete and passive release. Each yin pose will be preceded by a brief vinyasa segment to activate the nervous system, warm up the muscles, and prepare the body for the long holds.
Yoga Foundations
A slower paced class that focuses on fundamentals of yoga and is taught in the Vinyasa tradition. It breaks down the fast-paced series that you find in a Vinyasa Flow/Power class and focuses on body awareness and mechanics. This class is good for those new to yoga or students who want a slower paced class.
Yoga Core N’ More
This class combines Pilates-based core conditioning, deep stretching from yoga, and “butts-n-guts” target zone sculpting.
Abs & Core
This is a 45 minute workout focusing on the core muscle groups of the body, utilizing medicine balls, pilates balls and resistance exercises.
Circuit Training - Belmont Only
This is an intense 44-minute cardio & weight training program that utilizes our fitness equipment.
